Mangalyaan, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MRO) sent by India’s state owned Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will be reaching its fianl destination on Sepember 24. But for that, it has still to travel as many as 9 million kilometers, after which it will be entering orbit around Mars.

The Rs. 450-crore project was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh from the old workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) on November 5, 2013 with the aim of reaching the red planet's atmosphere by Sept 24, traversing 680 million km.

On September 24, ISRO scientists would restart the on Board Liquid Engine, which has been in sleep mode for nearly 10 months, for Mars Orbit insertion. Mangalyaan is India`s first inter-planetary mission.successful, India will become the fourth nation to reach Mars, after Russia, US and Europe.
