Mary Shelley (originally titled A Storm In the Stars) is an Irish-American-Luxembourgish romance film directed by Haifaa al-Mansour who in 2012 helmed Wadjda, known as the first feature ever to be fully shot in Saudi Arabia.
It is about writer Mary Shelley's first love and romantic relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, which inspired Mary to write Frankenstein.
The film was screened at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.It stars Elle Fanning, Maisie Williams, Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, and Ben Hardy. The film, which premiered in Toronto this year is based on the story and script written by Emma Jensen.
The story: Passionate and rebellious teenager Mary Wollstonecraft finds a kindred spirit in poet Percy Shelley. Their whirlwind love affair scandalizes polite society, as the young couple gorges on literature and a bohemian life.
When tragedy strikes and they lose their baby daughter, Mary finds the courage and bravery to transform her pain into the world’s first science fiction novel, Frankenstein, all by the age of 18.
